A two-day day conference on the Holocaust, "Re-Presenting the Shoah for the 21st Century", starts this morning at Trinity College, Dublin. Speakers from Israel, Europe and the US will address the issue of whether and how we can speak about the Holocaust, in historiography, (auto)biography, literature, philosophy, art, music, film and TV. Keynote speakers are Zygmund Bauman, Emeritus Professor of the universities of Leeds and Warsaw (tonight at 7 p.m. admission £5), and the Israeli writer and Holocaust survivor Aharon Appelfeld (tomorrow at 8 p.m. admission free). The conference was organised by the MPhil in Ethnic and Racial Studies, Department of Sociology, with the Herzog Centre for Jewish and Near Eastern Religion and Culture.
