First it was UCG, then it was UG and now it's NUI, Galway - and that's official. Last week the university launched its new corporate identity.
Once it received its autonomy, the college had hoped to style itself University of Galway, but this proved impossible under the terms of the 1997 Universities Act. From now on the college will be referred to as the National University of Ireland, Galway.
The university's smart new logo depicts its famous clock tower which is located above the entrance to the Quadrangle. Burgundy is the colour chosen for the logo - in keeping with local traditions. Maroon is the City's colour, is used by the Corporation and is worn by Galway's football and hurling teams.
