CASE STUDY:DUBLINER SARAH De Feu is one of the unlucky 89 students to have fallen utterly foul of Mary Hanafin's revamped Leaving Cert exam schedule. As a student of home economics, chemistry and geography, Sarah is "not happy".

"Chemistry is a very tough subject with a lot to remember," says the Mount Anville student, who hopes to study archaeology and geology at UCD.

"No matter how hard you work over the year you need a couple of days at least to gather your thoughts for the exam.

"When I chose chemistry it was the second last exam on the Leaving Cert schedule. I was banking on having a full week to prepare for it after all the others . . . In November, everything changed."

Sarah is very apprehensive about the prospect of sitting two exams a day for three days straight. "I don't think that the Minister thought this through," says Sarah.
