Anyone with young children will no doubt be well aware of who Bob The Builder is, and even those without kids will have heard the terrible, though catchy, Christmas single. All is forgiven, though, for producing this excellent website.

You need a Flash plug-in to use the site, but it is well worth downloading it for the joys that lie within. There is endless fun here for any young child, and adults regressing to their childhood and wishing that stuff like this existed however many years ago.

In the Parents Area of the site it says that it was designed to "amuse, educate and above all be a fun place to be". It works by having a virtual town, where the parent and child can visit all of the town's inhabitants to take part in activities and help them solve their problems.

It was designed, as is the TV programme from where it comes, with three- to six-year-olds in mind. The games all use bright colours and sound to make it more interesting for the users.

The first game asks the child to help Bob tidy up his toolshed by putting a wrench, screwdriver and hammer back on the wall using the mouse as a lifting tool. Fitting radiators in Wendy's house allows children to learn about co-ordination and the way that things will only work if connected in the right way.

My favourite game is the one where you help Farmer Pickles to keep his potatoes in their bins by whacking them back down. Great fun!

Some people might say that you should not have children that young using a computer mouse to click and drag and build and colour, but it is something they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. So long as access to it is controlled and properly supervised, it is fun and educational for the children and their parents.
