Students at Tallaght IT were set to walk out of their classes for an hour yesterday to protest a delay in issuing their Christmas exam results. The class representative assembly and senate in Tallaght both voted unanimously for the walk-out at 12 noon. At least two-thirds of students were expected to support the walkout Students were keen to make their disapproval of the delay apparent before a meeting of the institute's exam board, set for today.

Students' union president Glenn Mehta said the exam results should have been out on Thursday but were delayed because of problems with a new computer system in the college. This is the second year running, he says, that the results have been delayed in such a fashion; students fear their summer results could also be delayed - which could cause problems in applying for jobs, visas and college places. Mehta said the strike action would probably postpone the Tallaght union's impeachment procedures against USI president Dermot Lohan.
