The Burning Question: What attracts you to playing trad music?

I really enjoy playing together in a group. You make lots of friends and it's great craic. I play the tin whistle and the flute. I've been involved in playing here for the last three years. Of course I like music - pop music and stuff as well - but I love Irish music and playing with other people.

Noirin Ni EarcainI have been playing music since I was seven. I started off with the tin whistle and then the flute. My dad plays tin whistle as well so I guess that really encouraged me. It sounds really good when everyone is playing together and there is a good feeling of everyone helping each other out.

I started playing flute and tin whistle here last year. I have my first competition up soon and I am a little bit nervous but also really looking forward to it. I love practising for competition, the excitement of working together to get something right in time.

I play bodhran and tin whistle. I love the bodhran because you can get really into the rhythm when you are beating along with it. The competitions are great fun as well - I was third in the Leinster Under-12's bodhran last year. I would say to anyone: have a go at it, it's great fun.

The best thing about playing traditional music is learning as a group. It's not intimidating, no matter what level you're at - the atmosphere is lovely. I play concertina and I find it interesting learning new tunes and then listening to what it sounds like when we play together.

I began playing when I was five. I play piano, concertina and harp now as well. I had to go on at my parents to convince them about the harp. Next I would like to learn the guitar or flute. The sound of the instruments when they harmonise, playing along with other people makes it fun.
