The Burning Question: Would you like a teacher's pay and conditions?

Chad Hanway

Chad Hanway

I wouldn't particularly like to be a teacher. From what you see in the papers or on the news they don't seem to get paid enough. Also I think it could be too stressful if you have to shout at people a lot. I don't think they get long enough holidays.

Ross Kenny

I would quite like to be a teacher because I would like the holidays. I think the pay is enough - it's about £450 a week, so that is plenty. I would like it better if the holidays were longer but they are quite good. To be a teacher you need to be strict.

I think they don't get paid enough. A footballer or a solicitor get paid an awful lot more. If you are principal you have to go and sort out other classes, then when you come back to your class people can be messing, so that is extra pressure.

No, I definitely wouldn't do it. You have to be good with kids and the pay is not enough. Also the holidays are too short. My favourite subject in school is English writing, but I still wouldn't like to teach it. I would like to be a professional icehockey player.

I would like to be a teacher because our school is really good. We go on trips to different places and there are good after- school activities like the art club. I'd like to teach Irish. I think the pay is probably a bit too low and the holidays should be longer.

To be a teacher you would have to be very confident and do a lot of exams and study. I'm not sure if I'd like to do it - it would be quite stressful with all the shouting you have to do. I don't know if they get paid enough, because I don't know how much they get paid.

Teachers get paid about £400 a week and it would be a great job. You get to shout at everyone and boss them around. You can give people a red card to get them suspended and you can send them off to see the head teacher. I would love it.
