Teen Times: If, when reading the newspapers recently, you noticed the news about the Beckhams' move to the US, you are not alone. Seemingly, every man and his dog have heard about it and, despite my lack-lustre knowledge of soccer, it presents an interesting conundrum. That being, what is happening to the kids?
These kids, you see, are normal human beings - with their own lives, friends and schools.
For Brooklyn, their eldest child, this will be his second country move in five short years. And for Romeo and Cruz, it will present a full-scale move from their bases in Britain and Spain.
Obviously in Spain, where David was playing for Real Madrid, the kids were at school or pre-school. They had friends and traditions within the country that little over half a year ago, in an ITV documentary, David remarked on, stating: "I want to settle down here." Of course, now he isn't doing that, and neither are the children.
Instead, they are being moved across the Atlantic to a new lifestyle more suited to Suri Cruise. They are moving to the land of the National Enquirer and the Cruises, with one New Zealand newspaper remarking, in a list of 10 reasons they'll love their new home, that "the Beckham boys will be able to have play-dates with baby Suri, thus making the arranged marriage (that their parents have no doubt been plotting for months) a smooth and seamless transition."
Now even the most ironic and sarcastic person would find it hard to think this is a reason, because we all know the decision seems to be about money, without even a glance of thought going towards the children.
For example, after the deal with LA Galaxy was announced, it was revealed that several English Premier League clubs, and some French clubs, tried to woo him to their grounds, with similar deals to the contract he is on at Real Madrid.
Instead, he chose to take the "amazing amount of money", stating at a press conference: "I'm going for the life of course, for my kids to enjoy it and my wife to enjoy it, but the main thing for me is to improve the soccer and to improve the standard and to be part of history, really."
Now if that doesn't say something, then what does? Instead of the life, or his kids being the main reason for the move, it is his legacy that is most important. His desire to "be part of history".
And so it is this legacy that is leading to a move from Spain to America, throwing the Spanish lessons his kids have had out the window.
It is also throwing all his kids' chances of real relationships with their friends out the window; and ensuring that they never get to actually settle down - and have a normal family life, because in the Beckhams' world, it clearly seems that legacy is far more important than giving your kids a normal life.
