A sit-in protest involving students in University College Cork has succeeded in extending library opening hours during exam period.

After three successive nights of sit-ins at the Boole Library, the university agreed to extend library opening hours for the remainder of the exam period.

UCC Students’ Union agreed a deal with library staff to extend the opening hours from 9.15pm to 10.45pm on weekdays during exams. The protests were prompted when the library closed at 5.45pm the day before Christmas exams began, last Sunday, December 7th.

Over the past two nights students have remained studying in the library until 11pm, despite announcements that the library was closing at 9.15pm.
