Secondary school league tables in Wales will be subject to changes following the recent release of results for last academic year.
Jane Davidson, the Welsh Assembly minister for education and lifelong learning, said she will launch a consultative process in the new year to investigate an alternative means of assessing schools' performances.
Secondary schools in Wales are, at present, represented in league tables by the raw data of exam results. It is hoped that the new assessment will also consider so-called "value added" measures already taken into consideration in English league tables. These consider efforts made by schools to improve and encourage performance.
Davidson says she is concerned that the media simply focus on the "best and worst" schools.
