Cairo - Egyptians go to the polls today in the first of three rounds of parliamentary elections that many hope will offer a chance to change, if only slightly, the country's repressive political system, Siona Jenkins reports.
In Egypt's last elections, held five years ago, such was the level of abuse, in which 94 per cent of seats were won by the National Democratic Party of President Mubarak, that the entire parliament was declared unconstitutional last July. Members of parliament ignored the ruling.
