Senior civil servant Mr Michael Tutty was yesterday formally appointed vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) by the bank's board of governors.
Before his appointment, Mr Tutty was second secretary in charge of the Budget and economic division in the Department of Finance.
The 53-year-old Dubliner was proposed for the £147,000-a-year job by the Government after the former Supreme Court judge, Mr Hugh O'Flaherty, withdrew his name for the post after a summer of political controversy.
