Ankara - Mudslides brought on by heavy rainfall in northeastern Turkey have killed eight people, officials said yesterday. The authorities raised the death toll from six after two bodies were found in the remote Black Sea province of Rize. One person was still missing.
Two days of torrential rain set off massive flooding and mudslides, damaging roads and knocking out bridges. Residents in about 70 villages remained stranded, and more than 200 homes have been evacuated.
