Eircom has reported a 1 per cent fall in group earnings to €692 million for the year ending June 2009.
Revenues dropped 3 per cent to €1.9 billion while its operating loss was €486 million.
Earnings at mobile operator Meteor rose 11 per cent to €124 million compared to a 3 per cent fall in earnings for its fixed line business at €568 million.
Meteor had 1,026,000 mobile customers at the end of June, up 38,000 in the year. Post-paid customers accounted for 13.5 per cent of the total.
Paul Donovan, chief executive said: “the group has delivered a robust set of results against the background of a challenging operating environment.”
“Adjusted EBITDA for the group was €173 million in the quarter, down 2 per cent compared to last year, against a 6 per cent drop in revenues.
“Group EBITDA for the full year was €692 million, down 1 per cent on last year, against a drop of 3 per cent in revenues.” Mr Donovan said the performance of Meteor had supported group EBITDA.
Group operating costs were €1.3 billion, before non-cash pension credit, down 4 per cent due to lower pay and non-pay costs.
The number of employees has fallen 12 per cent to 933 since June 2007, the company said. Net debt stood at €3.3 billion at the end of the year, with cash on hand of €333 million.
