The Irish Independent has served protective notice on 600 employees because of a dispute with seven electricians. The notice expires on March 3rd.
The electricians are seeking compensation for past productivity. They claim other workers received payments for similar concessions. The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union hired consultants who evaluated the productivity conceded by their members at over £7,000 each.
When the company rejected the claim the TEEU withdrew from a meeting last Tuesday on the proposed move of printing facilities to Citywest. On Wednesday the protective notices were issued.
Yesterday evening both sides accepted an invitation to attend talks at the Labour Relations Commission.
