Atlanta - A three-judge appeals court panel concluded a hearing in Atlanta, Georgia, yesterday on whether an asylum request for the Cuban castaway, Elian Gonzalez, could go ahead.
No decision is expected soon on the petition from lawyers for Elian's Miami relatives, who are asking the judges to overturn a lower court ruling.
The lower court supported the Immigration Naturalisation Service argument that only the boy's father, Mr Juan Miguel Gonzalez can speak for the boy.
