Ernie Els has replaced Vijay Singh as world number two after winning the Memorial Tournament
at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio last night.
Three-times major champion Els, who romped to a four-shot victory with a closing six-under 66, moved up one spot in the global pecking order.
Singh, who tied for 24th at the Memorial, slipped to third, having been at number two in the world rankings since replacing Els with victory at the Funai Classic last October.
Fred Couples, the 1992 U.S. Masters champion, finished in second place on Sunday and vaults 18 spots to 19th in the world.
In the only other changes to the world's top 10, South Africa's Retief Goosen dislodged American Chad Campbell at number nine, with Campbell sliding to 10.
Tiger Woods retains his monopoly at number one for a record 252nd consecutive week and 322nd overall. The 28-year-old American is nine weeks short of Greg Norman's 331 weeks in top spot, the record since the official rankings were introduced.
On the European Tour, Simon Khan clinched his maiden title at the Wales Open, edging out compatriot Paul Casey at the second extra hole. Khan rocketed 114 spots to 141st in the world.
