Taipei - A computer engineer who circumvented Chinese censorship of the Internet is to go on trial today in Shanghai, accused of "subverting the socialist system".
Mr Lin Hai is said to have supplied a large number of email addresses in China to an overseas dissident publication, which could then communicate directly with individual addresses on the mainland without being blocked by the censor.
Mr Lin allegedly used his technical access, under the nickname "Black Eyes", to send 30,000 Chinese email addresses to the overseas publication VIP Reference which is labelled by Beijing as a "hostile foreign organisation".
