The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) has approved a 10.9 per cent rise in the price of gas.
Bord Gáis (BGE) will be able to increase tarrifs from tomorrow, October 1st. The new prices will mean a 20 cent increase on bills per day. Commercial customers face a 16 per cent rise in their gas bills.
The energy regulator, Mr Tom Reeves, has also ordered the ending of all discounts given to major customers by BGÉ by October 2006.
On approving the price rises, Mr Reeves said they were needed because of the escalating cost of fuel on world markets.
