England's selectors have opted for continuity by naming an unchanged squad for this Thursday's crunch third Ashes Test against Australia at Old Trafford.

Few changes were expected to the squad in the euphoria of their stunning and nail-biting triumph at Edgbaston on Sunday.

At a ground which traditionally favours spin during the latter stages of the Test, the selectors could have considered taking an extra spinner to help the workload of left-armer Ashley Giles.

But instead they have named the same 12 on duty at Edgbaston, although Paul Collingwood, called up for 48 hours while England considered their options for the previous Test, has been overlooked.

It leaves England with the option of naming an unchanged line-up for the third successive Test or giving Hampshire seamer Chris Tremlett his Test debut, possibly as a replacement for Matthew Hoggard following his disappointing display at Edgbaston.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney had earlier indicated that no changes would be made to the starting line-up.
