Planning permission for a multimillion euro refurbishment of Adare Manor and golf resort has been granted subject to a number of conditions.
The proposal includes: plans for a new bedroom wing of 40 rooms and a ballroom with capacity for some 350 patrons; upgrading of the spa facilities and construction of car parking and maintenance facilities; and a major redevelopment of the golf clubhouse and works to the golf course.
The planning application was approved by Limerick Co Council subject to 22 conditions.

There were no objections from the public but the the planning file contains six submissions.
Reardon Smith Architects, responsible for the restoration of the Savoy Hotel in London, are overseeing the redevelopment along with Limerick-based architect Michael Healy. Punch Consulting are also contracted for the massive project, which is expected to take 18 months to complete.
The five-star resort will close to guests during this time.
Estate of 840 acres
It is understood the golf course will close for about six months and members will be accommodated elsewhere.
Adare Manor hotel is owned by Limerick-born businessman JP McManus, his wife Noreen and the McManus family, who bought it and the 840-acre estate last year.
It is understood Mr McManus, who bought the resort last year for a figure in the region of €30 million, is planning to invest upwards of the same amount again in upgrading the facility.
The original Manor House, built by the second Earl of Dunraven, was last extended in 1989 when its previous owners, Americans Tom and Judy Kane, converted it to create a 62-bedroom hotel.
Since then, celebrity guests have included Bill Clinton, Tiger Woods, Hugh Grant, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, among others.
