Met Éireann has issued a yellow alert weather warning for the west of the country, with winds of up to 110km/h set to hit coastal areas on Tuesday night.
The alert comes into effect at midnight and will be in place until at least 3pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The forecaster has warned that southerly winds will increase to gale force on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea, and will occasionally reach strong gale force during Wednesday.
Average speeds of 50km/h to 70km/h are expected, with gusts of 90km/h to 110km/hr in Atlantic coastal counties.

Wet and windy weather is forecast for most of the country in the morning, with heavy rain in many areas.
The downpour will turn to showers later on and it will remain windy throughout the day.
