Garda and Coast Guard helicopters rescued two people on Sandymount Strand on Monday afternoon after they became trapped by the rising tide.
The crew of three in the Garda helicopter spotted the couple had been cut off by the rising tide and called emergency services.
The crew let the couple, who did not realise they had been cut off by the tide, know help was on the way.
During what was described as a “precarious” situation, they remained on the sand as the water level rose.
