HORIZONS: "Travel smarter, live better" is the theme of this year's European Mobility Week, which continues until September 22nd.
With more than 1,600 European cities taking part, it’s the biggest annual effort to encourage cycling, walking and taking public transport across the European Union. Botanic sculpture
Visitors to the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin, over the next few weeks have the extra pleasure of seeing the Sculpture in Context exhibition, which runs until October 15th. More than 120 sculptures by established sculptors are scattered throughout the gardens, ponds and glasshouses, as well as in the exhibition centre. Admission is free. The opening hours are from 9am to 6pm each day.
What a waste
The Michelin-starred chef Kevin Thornton (pictured) is leading a free workshop for hotel and restaurant managers on how to manage food waste. The aim is to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste going to landfill. The workshop is at Thomond Park Stadium, in Limerick, on Tuesday at 2pm. Prior booking is essential: call 061-496844.
