The country will get some respite from the rain this week with sun and dry weather expected on Tuesday.

Monday is set to be cloudy with widespread rain. The rain will turn heavy for a time especially over the northern half of the country but will clear eastwards during the afternoon with drier and brighter weather following from the west. Highest temperatures on Monday will range from 13 to 15 degrees over the northern half of the country but temperatures will reach about 18 or possibly 19 degrees in parts of the south.

Meteorologist with Met Éireann Joan Blackburn said while Tuesday should have pleasant weather, rain is expected for the rest of the week.

“Tuesday we could see temperatures of up to 19 degrees particularly in the east. Wednesday may have some dry weather but it will remain unsettled for the rest of the week,” said Ms Blackburn.

Whilst much of the country should hold dry on Wednesday, some rain or drizzle will move into west and northwest areas, particularly coastal districts, where it will also be rather breezy.

Thursday is set to be mild but rather cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain or drizzle across the country.

According to Met Éireann, most of the rain will affect Atlantic counties, with hill and coastal fog appearing too.

There will be some warm hazy sunshine at times across the midlands and the east with just the odd spot of rain or drizzle.

Met Éireann said temperatures will slip back down again on Friday with more wet weather forecast.
