Shannon Heritage wins contract for €7 million GPO visitor and exhibition centre

Centre one of seven major public projects being developed as part of initiative to commemorate the 1916 Rising

An Post has appointed Shannon Heritage to operate and manage the GPO Witness History Interpretive Exhibition Centre. The contract was awarded following a tender process.

The visitor centre is under construction in the inner eastern courtyard of the GPO and is expected to attract up to 300,000 visitors annually when it opens at Easter 2016.

Shannon Heritage CEO, John Ruddle said the company have been managing visitor attractions for over 50 years. “This new visitor attraction provides the company with a great opportunity to expand in the capital city and also play a vital role in the celebrations of the centenary of the Irish state,” Mr Ruddle said.

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys said it is “another important milestone” in the development of the visitor attraction at the GPO.
