Warning of thunderstorms and flash flooding

Intense thundery downpours forecast for most parts of country until 9pm

A weather warning is in place for much of the country today with thunderstorms and flash flooding expected.

Met Éireann said an orange warning, the second highest of three categories, is in place until 9pm.

Orange weather warnings are issued for weather conditions which have the capacity to have a significant impact on people in affected areas.

Intense thundery downpours are expected in parts of Munster, Leinster, Connacht, Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan.

The heavy showers or thunderstorms will die out tonight and tomorrow is shaping up to be dry with sunny spells.

On a more positive note, next weekend is predicted to be dry and sunny and near normal temperatures for the time of year.
