Yellow wind warning issued for gusts up to 90km/h

Met Eireann says temperatures a few degrees above normal for December

A yellow level wind warning for much of the country is in place on Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday morning

Met Eireann has issued the alert for counties Wexford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford.

Yellow is the lowest of the three tier warning system operated by Met Eireann.

It says winds will strengthen throughout this Tuesday evening and night with gusts of up to 90km/h and average speedds of 50 to 65km/h .

The northwest of the country will feel the strongest of the winds tonight, forecasters said.

Met Eireann has also issued a marine warning for winds reaching strong gale force early tonight.

However weather was very mild on Tuesday with temperatrues a few degrees above normal today for the start of December , at 14 degrees celccius in some areas.

Tuesday night will bring persistent rain along the western seaboard which will extend to all parts of the country overnight.

The windy spell follows Storm Clodagh which passed over the country last weekend bringing very strong gusts.
