Ericsson is being sued for billions of euros in a patent infringement case brought by US company Interdigital, business daily Dagens Industrireports today.
Interdigital, a maker of electronic components, is accusing Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson of infringing eight of its patents and is looking for damages totalling 20 billion to 40 billion kroner. (€18 billion to €4.37 billion), the paper reports.
Ericsson has asked the courts to cancel Interdigital's patents, arguing the technology concerned is already known and covered by previous patents.
All of the patents in question concern Time Division Multiple Access technology, which enhances mobile phone carrier capabilities compared with analogue systems.
The hearings were originally to open in Texas on Monday, but have been postponed to May 15th.
