The Electricity Supply Board announced today that one of the three men injured in an explosion at a generating station in Tarbert, Co Kerry yesterday has died in hospital.

Mr Pat McGroghan (38) died of severe burns at Cork University Hospital, where he and another worker were transported after yesterday's incident.

A third man is being treated for less severe injuries at Tralee General Hospital.

The explosion happened at 12.40 p.m. in a switch-gear room at the power station where the three men were working.

The ESB said it was investigating "the cause of the accident and will be co-operating fully with the Health and Safety Authority".

Mr McGroghan was from Doon, Tralee. He was an electrician at the Tarbert station, where he had been working since 1981.
