ESB workers at the coal-burning power station at Moneypoint Co Clare today accepted restructuring deal securing the future of the plant beyond 2008. ESB management have welcomed the decision.
Management will now seek the approval of the board to carry out the necessary investment to meet EU regulations on carbon emissions, before seeking the sanction of the Government.
The acceptance paves the way for a major investment in the plant which will allow Moneypoint to continue in operation beyond 2008.
EU emission control regulations imposed a deadline of June 30th for a decision on fitting a desulpharisation plant to the coal burning station in order to reduce harmful emissions.
