High winds and a lightening storm which struck some regions of the State today left 8,000 homes and businesses without electricity.
The ESB has said the storms affected their service and as a result there have been electricity cuts in Kerry, Tipperary, Cork and Wexford since 1 a.m. this morning.
Electricity was restored to around 1,500 homes by 4 p.m. and ESB spokesman Mr Michael Kelly, predicted a full return to normal services by tea-time this evening, weather permitting.
He said the ESB had been trying hard to get services back with crews working from first light this morning.
Also today a piece of hoarding was blown from a shop front on Grafton Street in Dublin injuring a passer-by who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Wind gusts of between 65 and 75 m.p.h were recorded today across the country and lightning showers occurred mostly in the Munster area.
Met Éireann has said it expects the winds to die down tonight and predicts light winds for tomorrow. The wet and windy weather will return by the weekend, but Met Éireann does not expect another storm.
