11.30 a.m. - Meeting in Dublin Castle of the "three presidents", the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, in his capacity as President of the European Council (the group of EU member-state heads of government that governs the Union), Mr Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission (which carries out the Council's wishes) and Mr Pat Cox, President of the European Parliament (which has some oversight powers, vetting the Council and the Commission).
Noon-8 p.m. - European Fair at Merrion Square, Dublin, featuring food, craft, tourism, technology and culture from expanded EU. Highlights include a 35-strong Dutch guild who will "re-enact" Rembrandt's masterpiece, The Nightwatch.
Musical entertainment ranges from Kila and Sharon Shannon to folk musicians and dancers from Poland (which joins the EU today), Bulgaria (which hopes to join around 2007), Finland
and Germany (both member-states).
