The European Commission has awarded a soft wheat food aid tender covering 31,250 tonnes for Eritrea, an official said today.
The EU granted the first tranche of 10,000 tonnes at aprice of €177.60 per tonne, while a second tranche of21,250 tonnes was granted at €172.60 per tonne, theofficial said.
Both lots were awarded on a delivery-to-final-destinationbasis to French-based company Ballouhey, he said.
The United Nations estimates that some 70 per cent ofEritreans rely on foreign aid for food, with nearly 22per cent of the country's children suffering from malnutrition.
