Bournemouth - The Prime Minister of Belgium, Mr Guy Verhofstadt, called yesterday for political union in Europe and urged Britain to engage more closely with the EU and sign up to its single currency. Addressing the annual conference of the Liberal Democrats, Mr Verhofstadt said the EU was first and foremost a single market. "To enlarge and to strengthen the union, we now must move to a political union as well. In my opinion this should entail a truly common foreign and defence policy and a common approach of internal, migration and justice issues."
