An Bord Pleanála is to hold an oral hearing into a decision by Nenagh Town Council to grant planning permission for a large residential and business development on the outskirts of the Co Tipperary town.
The local authority granted permission last November to the Stereame Partnership, opening the way for a €115 million development. It was granted despite complaints by local groups that the development would destroy the existing town centre.
The developers plan to transform 38 hectares of land at the Limerick side of Nenagh, at Stereame, into a shopping, warehousing and residential area.
Developers plan to build 426 houses - including 388 residential units and 38 sheltered housing units - an 80-bedroom hotel, creche, cineplex, retail warehousing and a medical centre.
Nenagh Civic Alliance and Nenagh Traders and Development Association lodged an objection to the proposal, as did the owner of the Abbey Court Hotel and Limerick-based property developer and builder, Mr J.P. Ryan. In their appeals they requested that An Bord Pleanála would hold an oral hearing.
An Bord Pleanála wrote to the third party appellants last Thursday informing them they had been granted an oral hearing.
