Children in Cork have been given a taste of what they can look forward to during the City of Culture, with the launch of the Euro-child Book of Art and Poetry, in the city at the weekend.

Poet, Mr Tom McCarthy, of the Capital of Culture 2005 Committee, launched the book which enables children under 12 from Ireland and all over Europe to express their views on what it is to be a European child, through art and poetry.

The book, which is multi-lingual, is launched in June each year and was already launched in Nantes, in France, during the Euro-Ecole Children's Festival.

Children from all over Europe, including many from new EU accession countries, celebrated the launch of the book in Tigh Fili, Cork, to coincide with the Euro-child international festival which runs from June 28th to 30th in the city.
