Euro notes 'only toxic if you eat 400 at once'

A European Central Bank board member is warning people not to eat more than 400 euro notes at once.

Professor Eugenio Domingo Solans was responding to reports the ink on the notes is poisonous.

He told reporters the ink only poses health risks if people eat hundreds of the notes.

He says experts have examined the bills and decided there's only a theoretical danger.

He told reporters it's not recommended to eat the euro notes and also said the practice would be "expensive".

Professor Solans, who is a member of both the Governing Council and the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, made his comments at a press conference in Madrid.
