The net foreign currency reserves of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) fell by 800 million euros to 265 billion euros in the week to May 11th, the ECB said today.

The ESCB comprises the European Central Bank and the central banks of the 12 eurozone countries.

Assets held in gold and gold receivables remained unchanged at euro 118.464 billion. ESCB holdings of marketable securities of euro-area residents were also unchanged at euro 27.9 billion.

The amount of banknotes in circulation decreased by the equivalent of euro 2.3 billion to euro 353.6 billion. Liabilities to national governments decreased by euro 1.7 billion to euro 35 billion, the ECB said.
