THE Evening News, which ceased publication three months ago, is to be wound up next Monday at a creditors' meeting, where a liquidator will be appointed, writes Michael Foley, Media Correspondent. The paper started publication on May 27th, 1996, and was an attempt to fill the slot left vacant in the Dublin newspaper market by the demise of the Evening Press.
In a letter to creditors, the chief executive Mr Gerry Mahady said that, since publication was "suspended", the board of directors had been endeavouring to obtain sufficient investment for a relaunch and to sustain publication over a two-year period "when it was felt, the paper would at least be in a break even situation.
