A former member of the Garda's anti-terrorist unit has been sent forward for trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on charges of dangerous driving.

Frank Hayes of Glengara Park Dun Laoghaire appeared at Dún Laoghaire District Court where he was granted free legal aid by Judge Claire Leonard today.

The charges relate to two accidents  in Dublin in July last year which resulted in the death of a 71-year old-man and the serious injuries to two teenage girls.

Detective Sergeant Sean Campbell who presented the book of evidence to Judge Leonard said Hayes was charged with four counts of breaches of the Road Traffic Act and two charges of Reckless Endangerment under Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Mr Hayes was remanded on bail to the present sitting of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
