A former garda accused of corruption and unlawful possession of firearms has changed his solicitor, a court heard yesterday.

Mr John C. O'Neill (32), of Kingswood Heights, Tallaght, Dublin is also accused of perverting the course of justice and destroying three court warrants between November 1995 and October 1996. He is charged with receiving £16,100 between 1995 and 1996 in amounts ranging from £100 to £5,000 from Mr Anthony Long, Mr Derek O'Driscoll and Mr Patrick Ward. He is also accused of possessing three shotguns and a handgun on October 17th last.

Dublin District Court heard he had discharged Mr Garrett Sheehan and wanted to be represented by Mr Gerard Murphy from Bray. Judge Catherine Murphy remanded him on continuing bail of £10,000 to appear for submissions on the book of evidence on October 28th.
