Former JMSE director Mr Gabriel Grehan said yesterday there was not one iota of truth in any suggestion that he in any way changed his evidence to the tribunal.
Mr Grehan worked for JMSE from 1976 to 1984 under Mr James Gogarty. He rejoined in 1988 and left in 1997.
Mr Michael Cush SC, for the Murphy Group, cross-examining, said that while Mr Grehan was in JMSE, he was prepared to voice his criticisms or concerns if he felt it was warranted. That clearly continued to be the case when he left the company in 1997.
If he was asked by the tribunal to provide assistance, there would be no reason why he would not tell what he understood to be the true picture about JMSE.
"I am asking you that, lest there be any suggestion that you in any way changed or altered your evidence to the tribunal. If that suggestion is made, is there one iota of truth in it?"
Mr Grehan replied: "No."
Mr Cush asked if he could take it that when he was asked to assist the tribunal the last thing he would have wanted was to end up in confrontation with the tribunal. Mr Grehan said that was correct.
Mr Cush said to some extent that did occur and there was some dispute between him and the tribunal and this was because he declined to put his name to material he felt was not accurate.
Mr Grehan said it was.
Following legal argument, the line of questioning was discontinued.
