Former US Marine Toby Studabaker could be extradited to Britain within days to face charges of child abduction, the public prosecutor's office in the German city of Frankfurt said today.

Mr Studabaker was due to appear in court in Frankfurt later today following his arrest in the city yesterday hours before the reunion of 12-year-old Shevaun Pennington with her parents.

British police have travelled to Germany with an international warrant for his extradition and were this morning questioning him in a police cell.

The General Public Prosecutor of the state of Hessen said Mr Studabaker would face no charges in Germany, as he was thought to have committed no crime there.

If he co-operated with the extradition request, he could be in Britain within days. But if he chose to fight extradition, the process could take months.

Mr Studabaker (31) was arrested at about 1.30 p.m. in Frankfurt yesterday. Five days after disappearing with Shevaun Pennington, he contacted the FBI voluntarily at lunchtime.

An unharmed Shevaun was reunited with her parents last night after disappearing with Mr Studabaker who she met on the Internet, before meeting up in Manchester and flying to France.
