THIRD-LEVEL COLLEGES:THE ADVERSE weather conditions have led to the postponement of exams in several third-level institutions and to the closure of other colleges, including UCD.
Students attending third-level colleges all over the State have been advised to monitor their college websites for further details.
All examinations scheduled for today at Trinity College Dublin have been postponed due to the inclement weather forecast. The college advised students to visit its website where details would be updated when available.
NUI Maynooth has postponed all exams scheduled for today and will hold them on Friday January 22nd. It said it intended to proceed with other scheduled examinations as normal but would assess the situation today and would let students know of any changes via their college e-mail accounts.
All IT Tallaght examinations scheduled for today in the National Basketball Arena, at the institute and at other centres have been postponed. These exams will be rescheduled from Monday January 18th and the revised timetable will appear on the institute’s website when available.
All Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) examinations scheduled for today in DIT and in its other centres have been postponed and new dates are being arranged.
Examinations for the rest of the week are expected to proceed as scheduled, the institute said in a message on its website. It also cancelled all classes in the Conservatory of Music and Drama until Thursday.
Letterkenny IT has postponed its semester one examinations from today until Saturday, January 16th. Further details will be posted on its website this morning.
All IT Carlow examinations scheduled for this week have been deferred until next week and students and staff will be sent updates by e-mail.
UCD has closed its campuses at Belfield and Blackrock until tomorrow for health and safety reasons. The campuses closed on Saturday afternoon and staff have been asked not to enter the college except for essential academic or operational activity. College authorities will review the situation today.
Student residences have remained open but students were advised to delay their return until tomorrow if possible and to check the UCD website for updates.
Waterford IT said the start of lectures had been postponed until Wednesday due to the adverse weather conditions.
St Angela’s College Sligo also postponed the resumption of classes until Wednesday due to the hazardous approach road to the college and the icy conditions around the college campus.
It will post an update on its website today.
