An exhibition of the four shortlisted proposals for the redevelopment of Dún Laoghaire's Carlisle Pier opened yesterday in the harbour's ferry terminal.
The exhibition, with visual displays and large-scale models of the national and international architects' plans, is open daily until Sunday, February 8th.
The proposals were made following Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's decision to allow for "an exceptional landmark building of international architectural quality that regenerates and enlivens the waterfront . . ."
The cultural elements of the four designs include a maritime museum; a diaspora museum; an arts and literature centre, gallery and emigration history museum; and a national aquarium.
As part of the harbour company's public consultation process, visitors are being asked to fill in comment cards indicating their preferences. These views, and those from other submissions, will then be assessed, and a recommendation made to the harbour board.
The board will also consider the recommendation of a panel of experts, and a final decision on the winning project is expected before April. The selected project will require planning permission from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council before construction begins.
The exhibition is open today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Opening hours for the week are: Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m; Monday to Wednesday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m; Thursday, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m; Friday, 2 p.m. - 8p.m; Saturday,11 a.m. - 5 p.m; Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
