An explosion has damaged a car carrying Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova in the region's capital Pristina.

An explosion has damaged a car carrying Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova in the region's capital Pristina.

Police said the blast at 7:20am Irish time damaged Mr Rugova's car, which was travelling in a convoy and also shattered windows in nearby buildings. No one was hurt.

Mr Rugova was on his way to meet European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana who arrived in Pristina on Monday evening. The cause of the blast was not clear.

On Monday, former Kosovan prime minister Ramush Haradinaj pleaded not guilty at The Hague to war crimes charges. A hero to many ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, he resigned his office last week to face the charges.
