A loud explosion was heard near the US embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul today.
Police and soldiers searched a nearby Afghan military sports field. Witnesses said they believed a rocket had exploded in the field, but police could not confirm that. No injuries were immediately reported.
The Afghan military said the rocket exploded in the field about 300 yards from the embassy.
It took place after US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld met Afghan President Hamid Karzai and held a news conference with him at the presidential palace in another part of the city.
