The Football Association have confirmed they will study video evidence of yesterday's Arsenal v West Ham match to ascertain whether Dennis Bergkamp was guilty of deliberately elbowing Lee Bowyer.
The Dutchman stuck out his arm and caught Bowyer as he held off the former Leeds player in the build-up to Arsenal's second goal in a match the Gunners won 3-1.
A statement from the FA on their official website said: "Following yesterday's Premier League match at Highbury between Arsenal and West Ham United, we can confirm the FA has today requested a copy of the video of an incident between Dennis Bergkamp and Lee Bowyer.
"As is always the case, the FA will await the officials' match reports before considering what, if any, action is to be taken."
The Dutchman, fined after a video investigation of a clash with Blackburn's Nils-Eric Johansson in which he appeared to stamp on his opponent earlier this season, said of the Bowyer incident: "I was protecting the ball and when I turned round there was contact with him, but I never knew he was there.
"I didn't intend to touch him. The referee was close enough to see that. I told Lee Bowyer it was just a big accident and there was nothing I could do."
If referee Mike Dean confirms in his match report that he saw the incident clearly but chose to take no action, there is nothing the Football Association can do even if they wanted to intervene.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger defended Bergkamp after the game, saying: "When Arsenal are involved there is always more made of it. We are used to that.
"But it looked like Dennis was just protecting the ball with his elbows and Bowyer ran into him. It didn't look intentional, and why if he had the ball would he want to elbow Bowyer?"
