As the parties prepare for the Seanad by-elections, two of the Taoiseach's nominees are about to face each other in court, and the Presi- dent, Mrs McAleese, could have a walk-on role. Senator Edward Haughey, the millionaire businessman, is demanding that St Bronagh's GAA club in Rostrevor, Co Down, demolish part of a £180,000 changing room complex before the official opening on St Patrick's Day. The action is due in the Belfast High Court in the next few weeks and the defendant is Senator Maurice Hayes. A trustee and fan of the club is none other than the President.
Haughey, head of Newry's Norbrook Laboratories, owns a covenant restricting building at St Bronagh's grounds which are close to Carpenham, his former home, now used to accommodate guests since he moved to Ballyedmond Castle.
